A legend tells the story of the goddess Flora. She was madly in love with Cyanus. But she found him killed in a field covered with cornflowers so she gave these flowers his name. Centaurea cyanus is the name of what is commonly known as cornflower, a flower that appears also in many other love stories and which can be found in the midst of ripe wheat and poppies in illustrations of 19th century.
