About Us

Helan (Helios - Animus) was created in 1972 with the aim of producing natural cosmetics in keeping with traditions and centuries old knowledge of herbs that seemed to have been forgotten, pushed aside in a frenetic rush towards modernism. Our products are natural and made of plant oils and extracts, essences, honeys and scented waters, which give a sense of well-being and beauty due to their properties which have a natural affinity with our skin.

To us, being the Singapore arm of Helan is more as a philosophy of life than a production choice. Helan phytocosmetics are formulated with substances which are skillfully drawn from nature:

  • Vegetable extracts containing effective ingredients and essential oils,  in perfect synergy for the best cosmetic solution;
  • Sebum-similar, non-comedogenic vegetable oils and butters;
  • Vegetable emulsions, non-etoxilate (not containing POE/PEG);

The Helan functional lines, such as shampoos and bath foams, are in addition:

  • Preservatives free;
  • SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) Free;
  • Free of synthetic colorants;
  • Clinically tested, but not on animals;
  • Biodegradable as far as possible in harmony with nature (environmentally friendly and high ecological compatibility);
  • Dioxane free;
  • DEA and Cocamide DEA free;
  • POE/PEG free;
  • Natural based detergents;
  • Excellent toxicological profile;
  • High skin tolerance;
  • Pleasant substantiveness on skin and hair;
  • Fine, stable foam structure

We continuously improve on our products and research and update our formulation to keep in pace with scientific information and are confident for the benefit of our customers.

The entire Helan formulation and production system is carried out according to high quality standards and all processes comply with the criteria of certification relating to quality and the environment set out in international standards and meets the standards for UNI EN ISO 9001/2000 amd  UNI EN ISO 14001/04.

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) Free

Our aim in formulating shampoos and bath foams has been the creation of balanced products featuring restorative ingredients next to surface active agents, in order to optimise performance while fully respecting the structure of the skin.

Cleansing is normally directed at removing flaking cells, superficial impurities, sweat, oxidized sebum and bacterial growth. This entails partial elimination of the hydro-lipid film on the skin and consequently the possible alteration of water balance and acidity in the skin’s outer layer, making the epidermis more exposed to external aggressions. Coherent with the company philosophy, Helan endeavoured to answer the need for effective but gentle cleansing with particular attention to the variables of cleansing systems; the aim is avoid accumulation of the negative effects of cleansing and preventing depletion of the skin’s protective functions.

The most recent research at Helan’s laboratories were aimed at Replacing SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate), two detergents which despite being compliant with international regulations, have raised doubts in more conscientious consumers particularly because of recent campaigns echoed also over the Internet.

PRESERVATIVE FREE

All products containing water, and especially cosmetics, represent an ideal environment for bacterial growth and therefore need measures to prevent bacterial invasion that would damage the product and most importantly, the skin to which it is applied.

Production and commercial distribution of cosmetics in Italy is regulated by a law similar to those in the rest of the European Community, clearly listing all permitted preservative substances and their maximum amount allowed in order to avoid excessive dosages that may cause undesirable irritating effects.

We utilise advanced cosmetic research which discovered a number of substances (lipo-amino acids, enzymes, essential oils) with high cosmetic performances and at the same time the ability to inhibit microbiological growth. Employing these substances therefore means the possibility to avoid the use of preservatives listed in the above mentioned law. With the object of further advancing our expertise in natural cosmetics, Helan carried out a series of tests on formulas containing lipo-amino acids, enzymes and essential oils for which the excellent results has resulted in us excluding the use of traditional preservatives from a number of cosmetic products that are now proud to label as “PRESERVATIVE FREE”.
